Ron's Guide was founded in the early months of 2003. Unfortunately, the exact date is unknown. I am fairly sure, however, it was sometime around late March to early April.
Originally, Ron's Guide was hosted at Yahoo! GeoCities, believe it or not. The tutorial section was much less extensive, offering only HTML tutorials. Hence, the official name of the site at that time was "Ron's Guide to HTML."
Me wants PHP.In July of 2003 Ron's Guide switched from GeoCities to Elixant. Much of The reason for the move was to accommodate my growing knowledge of PHP. Custom-made scripts such as a poll system, a shoutbox, and other extras were implemented. Ron's Guide was becoming more a dynamic, user-driven environment.
Ron's Guide in the press
In January of 2004 a couple visitors informed me via the shoutbox of an article featuring Ron's Guide to HTML.
The article was published in a UK based magazine called "Web User."
The article gave Ron's Guide to HTML an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars, saying "...Ron's clear explanations are pitched perfectly for the at absolute beginners..."
New name, same great taste! With visitors to Ron's Guide continuously growing, the need for more advanced tutorials became inherent. Plans to offer CSS tutorials soon followed. As such, the name "Ron's Guide to HTML" no longer made sense and was shortened to simply "Ron's Guide."
Ron's Guide version 3
On February 7, 2004, Ron's Guide version 3 was released to the public.
Version 3 included several new features including a new, XHTML compliant design (displayed left),
a new format for tutorial listings, individual tutorial statistics and more.
Ron's Guide version 3 also included a skin changer. It allowed the user to select from 4 different color schemes; gray, blue, green and red. This feature however, was discontinued with the release of version 4, which is what you see now.
It's been a long roadRon's Guide has come a long way since its meager beginnings at GeoCities. From the original HTML tutorials to the more advanced PHP tutorials, it has truly become a great resource for webmasters of beginner-intermediate skill levels.
Many thanks go to the loyal visitors of this website who help spread the word about our little niche on the web and continue to shape its future.
